Types of Training Opportunities

OSPR offers a range of training opportunities designed to help DePaul faculty and staff secure grant funding and to promote sound management of awarded grant funds. The pre-award workshops described below are offered upon request. Please contact us if you would like to schedule one for your department. The post-award worshops are offered through Financial Affairs, in cooperation with OSPR. See http://140.192.78.8/training/training_Home.asp for further information and to register.

General Pre-Award Workshops:

Searching for Grant Funding
Provides an introduction to conducting on-line funding searches. The workshop focuses on two electronic databases to which DePaul subscribes: Illinois Researcher Information Service and Community of Science.

Writing Competitive Grant Proposals
Provides an overview of the major components included in most full grant proposals and presents successful strategies developing them.

Developing Effective Grant Budgets
Focuses on strategies and guidelines for developing effective budget detail and budget narrative sections of a full grant proposal.

Introduction to Grants.gov
Provides an overview of this increasingly important web portal, which is being used by numerous federal agencies to list funding opportunities and accept electronic grant proposals.

RFP-Specific Workshops:

Each of these workshops focuses on a specific RFP (request for proposals) that has recently been issued by a funding agency. Activities include a close reading of the RFP, discussion of each of the required proposal components, and an exploration of the types of projects that would best fit the review criteria. The workshops are typically announced via e-mail as RFP's are published.

Post-Award Training:

Budget Manager III
This workshop, offered in cooperation with Controller's Office staff, focuses on the budget management, procurement, and compliance issues that new Principal Investigators/Project Directors will confront as they implement their grant projects.

Budget Manager I & II
These workshops, which are recommended prerequisites to Budget Manager III, take a more in-depth approach to the financial systems issues, including budget management and enrollment, with which Principal Investigators/Project Directors should be familiar.
