The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR), a division of Academic Affairs, assists full-time faculty and staff; academic centers and institutes; departments, programs, schools, and colleges; and the university as a whole with obtaining external funding that supports activities ranging from scientific research to community service. This funding derives from government agencies at all levels (federal, state, and municipal) and from other entities that fund fellowships, research, and other faculty development activities. It is awarded through a variety of funding mechanisms, including grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
To encourage faculty and staff participation in grants activity, OSPR sends out notices of grant opportunities and deadlines, presents workshops on proposal development and other related topics, and assists grant applicants with proposal preparation and submission. This assistance includes management of DePaul's proposal review process, and proposal sign-off by an authorized institutional representative.
OSPR also promotes and supports the effective management of grant awards. The office sets up new grant awards within the university system; participates in the training of new principal investigators; and provides post-award management services. These services include providing technical support for project implementation, approvals involving compliance issues, and guidance on reporting and closeout activities. OSPR works with other university offices and with university officials to formulate policies and procedures promoting compliance with the laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the management of government funds.
